Another episode of religious vandalism has struck the shrine of “Lonato 2,” with the crucifix removed in a third attack that has occurred since February. Following previous damage to images of the Madonna and Jesus, the votive shrine, erected in 1999 in memory of Father Giorgio, has once again been targeted by vandals who seem to be fixated on the sacred symbols displayed there. Residents are questioning whether these acts are merely vandalism or a genuine profanation, as the area is also used for camping and littering.
The stolen crucifix had recently been repaired by a local blacksmith, but the chapel lacks surveillance cameras. Councilor Massimo Castellini stated that security systems have been installed in other parts of the municipality and that there are plans to enhance services in the most critical areas. Investigations are ongoing by the carabinieri of Lonato to shed light on these unfortunate acts.
