Bridges on the Mincio: the sluice gates of the Salionze dam removed after 80 years. An important operation is underway by Aipo for the modernization and repurposing of the Salionze dam, a key structure for managing the waters of Lake Garda in the municipality of Ponti sul Mincio. This major hydraulic intervention has involved the removal of the historic sluice gates, installed between 1942 and 1948, which had never been replaced until now. Each sluice gate, weighing 18 tons and measuring 10 meters in length, was extracted using complex techniques due to its size.
The project, part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), entails a total investment of 20.5 million euros for seven interventions along the integrated Garda-Mincio-Salionze dam system. The new sluice gates, which will be installed in the coming days, will maintain the same dimensions but will weigh only 10 tons each. Thanks to hydraulic movement, they will ensure a more efficient regulation of lake levels, thereby improving the hydraulic management of the area.
