A thick fog caused difficulties for two fishermen on Lake Garda, leading to a rescue operation by the Coast Guard. The request for assistance came around noon on Wednesday, December 17, when the two men, aboard their vessel, suddenly found themselves surrounded by a dense fog that reduced visibility to less than 5 meters, making it impossible to navigate back to the harbor.
Thanks to the prompt response of the Operations Room in Salò, a patrol boat already on duty was immediately dispatched. The crew located the fishermen’s boat using radar and, after assessing their physical condition, escorted them back to their home port, approximately 2 miles away. The timely intervention was crucial given the cold temperatures that could have worsened the situation. The Coast Guard has advised caution while navigating and emphasized the importance of always having a smartphone on hand for any emergency calls.
