The project to reintroduce bleak fish into Lake Garda continues successfully thanks to the collaboration between the Garda Sport Fishing Union, local administrations, and the Riva forestry section. In the protected area of Val Gola, located on the border between Limone and Riva, cages containing boxes with bleak fish eggs from the southern part of the lake have been placed. This area is off-limits to bathing and navigation to ensure a safe environment for restocking.
Bleak fish, a crucial species in the lake’s food chain, has seen a drastic decline in recent decades, causing ecological imbalances. The project aims to restore this population so that it can reproduce independently as it did in the past. The hope is that the new bleak fish can adapt and thrive in the waters of Lake Garda, thus contributing to the rebalancing of the lake’s ecosystem.
