The Scaligero Castle of Sirmione has made it into the top 30 Italian wonders, with an impressive number of 247,924 visitors in 2023, according to the report by the Ministry of Culture. This majestic 14th-century fortress, located on Lake Garda, generated nearly one million euros in revenue, establishing itself as one of Italy’s most visited destinations. The structure not only dominates the landscape with its grandeur, but also serves as the gateway to the historic center of Sirmione through a picturesque wooden bridge.
Mayor Luisa Lavelli expressed great pride in this achievement, emphasizing the historical and strategic importance of the castle and its current role as a tourist and cultural attraction. The Scaligero Castle is not only a distinctive symbol of the city, but also a well-preserved example of a lakeside fortification that continues to fascinate visitors from around the world. The nearby Grotte di Catullo and the Archaeological Museum have also recorded significant numbers of visitors, confirming Sirmione as a destination rich in history and natural beauty.
