On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Salò earthquake, which struck the area on November 24, 2004, with a magnitude of 5.2, the local administration has organized a series of commemorative events for Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23. The initiatives include a technical conference on seismic reconstruction and a guided tour of the historic center, where the effects of the earthquake and the preventive measures taken to mitigate damage in the event of future seismic occurrences will be illustrated. Experts in Italian seismic engineering, including Mauro Dolce and Gian Michele Calvi, will be present to discuss innovative approaches to the revitalization of built heritage.
The program also features an evening meeting titled “20 Years Since the Earthquake: Between Memory and Reflection,” dedicated to the citizens of Salò, during which significant testimonies will be shared by those who experienced that devastating event. This anniversary not only commemorates the memory of the tragedy but also encourages reflection on the lessons learned regarding prevention and emergency management, emphasizing the importance of civil protection in safeguarding communities vulnerable to seismic phenomena.
