In Sirmione, an incident of abuse towards parking spaces reserved for disabled people has been reported. The complaint was made through the Facebook group “Sei di Sirmione se…” and has sparked a lot of discussion on social media, especially because the vehicle involved was a campaign vehicle for mayoral candidate Roberto Campagnola.
The photo posted in the Facebook post clearly shows an advertising vehicle parked in a space reserved for disabled people within the parking area on Via Verona, where the weekly market takes place on Fridays.
The citizen who shared the complaint expressed their disappointment regarding this behavior, emphasizing that the illegally parked car had clearly violated the rules of reserved parking spaces. They also commented that, although elections are a time of political confrontation, a certain level of correctness and mutual respect is still expected. They concluded by saying, “Perhaps for some, elections are a no-holds-barred war, but I hope that at least respect for people and their needs remains, and that we cannot turn a blind eye to anything or anyone just to appear. This is the bitter feeling I have today.”
Following the complaint, mayoral candidate Roberto Campagnola has apologized for the incident. He stated that he is deeply sorry and saddened by what happened, emphasizing that those who know him know how respectful he is towards every form of diversity and vulnerability. He assured that he has already filed a complaint to prevent such incidents from happening again, not only in Sirmione but also elsewhere. Campagnola is aware that his candidacy exposes him to all kinds of criticism, but he is committed to maintaining transparency and sincerity in his actions. Finally, he thanked both those who support him and those who criticize him, as both contribute to making Sirmione a more beautiful and livable city.
