Sirmione, the pearl of Lake Garda, continues to shine in the Italian tourism landscape thanks to its Scaliger Castle and the Catullo Caves, which remain among the most visited destinations in the country. With a significant presence in the top 30 wonders of Italy, Sirmione represents an excellent example of cultural and historical attraction.
The Fascination of Scaliger Castle
The Scaliger Castle, a majestic 14th-century structure that dominates the lake landscape, has recorded record numbers in 2023. With 247,924 visitors and revenue close to one million euros, the castle ranked 30th among the most visited museums in Italy. This data, derived from a recent report by the Ministry of Culture, highlights the timeless appeal of the historic building.
Access to the historic center of Sirmione is through a picturesque wooden bridge that passes through the castle walls, offering visitors a breathtaking view of Lake Garda. The average daily attendance has been estimated at around 679 people, emphasizing the constant flow of tourists on both weekdays and holidays.
The Catullo Caves: An Archaeological Attraction
Not only the castle, but also the Catullo Caves and the adjacent archaeological museum have demonstrated their tourist relevance. These sites ranked 27th in the category of the most visited archaeological museums in Italy with 125,103 visits and revenues of 602,017 euros in the same year.
These results are a source of pride for the local community and the municipal administration. Mayor Luisa Lavelli commented, “Those who approach the old village find the Castle welcoming them in all its majesty, a distinctive symbol of Sirmione, telling our history.”
