The Superintendent of Fine Arts and Landscape of the provinces of Brescia and Bergamo, Luca Rinaldi, has halted the continuation of the Garda cycle path beyond the Grand Hotel in Gardone, citing the project as “illogical and a ridiculous waste”. This decision is part of a broader context of criticism towards construction planning in the coastal areas of Lake Garda, with particular attention to negative environmental impacts and the saturation of the territory. Rinaldi has urged municipalities to review urban planning tools to limit land consumption and preserve the landscape.
Rinaldi has emphasized the need to stop tourist construction expansion and to ensure housing only for residents in need. He has also criticized the lack of a coordinated regional landscape plan with the ministry, highlighting a significant gap between current building possibilities and a sustainable transformation of the territory. The superintendent has also mentioned specific ongoing projects, such as the Community House in Salò and a large parking lot in Limone sul Garda, which could have a significant environmental impact if not managed properly.
