The fifth technical day dedicated to olive growing took place in Arco, bringing together experts and producers from Northern Italy and Slovenia. During the meeting, held on Tuesday at the auditorium of the parish center, data regarding olive oil production for 2024 was analyzed, highlighting good quality but an overall low yield due to unfavorable weather conditions. A total of 2,845 tons of olives were processed in the mills of the Trentino Alto Garda region, producing 311.4 tons of oil, resulting in a yield of 10.95%. The absence of pests ensured a high-quality standard for the oil.
Throughout the day, studies on sustainable plant defense were presented, including the use of mineral powders such as kaolin and zeolite to combat harmful agents and enhance the nutritional properties of the oil. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the spread of fungal diseases and recent findings of eriophyid mites in Slovenia that could negatively impact production. Finally, initiatives aimed at supporting the sector were outlined, including provincial funding aimed at encouraging young farmers and preventing the abandonment of cultivated olive-growing areas.
