The future of the Grand Hotel in Gardone Riviera remains a mystery, despite expectations of renovation. Purchased in the spring of 2023 by the Romanian company Pavăl Holding, the project envisioned a significant overhaul of the historic structure, with a reopening scheduled for June 2023 under the management of Apex Alliance Hotel Management in collaboration with Hilton. However, a year after the acquisition, there have been no tangible advancements, and the opening has been postponed to March 2024 without any visible changes.
The promised investments of around 45 million euros, which were supposed to transform the hotel into a modern establishment with over 160 rooms, two restaurants, and a wellness center, seem far from the current reality. The lack of signs of construction has led to speculation that the Grand Hotel may reopen in 2025 in its traditional form. Meanwhile, another project in Gardone Riviera, the conversion of the former Casino into a gastronomic and cultural center, is proceeding without obstacles. The history of the Grand Hotel dates back to 1884 and has been crucial for the development of tourism in the region; its current uncertain situation raises questions about the future of tourism in the area.
