The Municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere enthusiastically celebrates the return of the Gran Carnevale Castiglionese, an event that represents a moment of festivity and community gathering for the local population. The traditional parade of floats and masked groups will take place on Sunday, February 16, starting at 2:00 PM.
The festivities will kick off from Viale Boschetti, continuing through the charming historic center of the city. The route will culminate in Piazza San Luigi, where a specialized jury will evaluate the participants based on expressiveness, costumes, and choreography. This event is organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Strada dei Vini e Sapori Mantovani Association and is an integral part of the “Carnevale dei Colli” circuit.
An Event Rich in Participation
“This year, there will be eight floats and several walking groups from the provinces of Mantova and Brescia,” declared Mayor Enrico Volpi. “The number of participants demonstrates how sought after our city is for this carnival parade. We are proud to carry on a tradition that has its roots in the folklore of the early 1900s.”
The event not only celebrates local culture but also offers citizens the opportunity to enjoy a day filled with joy and lightheartedness.
Awards and Recognitions
During the event, a competition will take place, offering various prizes for the participants, along with three special recognitions dedicated to the memory of the Castiglione residents Giacomo and Guido Stuani. These two names are inextricably linked to the history of the Aloisian Carnival, as their family has supported the event since its inception in the 1900s, when Giacomo began building floats in his carpentry workshop.
In case of adverse weather conditions, the event may be canceled. For updated information, please consult the Valore Castiglione Facebook page or contact the Culture, Tourism, and Leisure Office at the numbers 0376 679 305 – 306.
