A tragic accident occurred on Sunday, June 30, 2024 along SP9, near Lake Valvestino. A 28-year-old motorcyclist from Fino Mornasco in the province of Como lost control of his bike while descending towards Gargnano, colliding with his brother’s vehicle ahead. The impact caused the young man to fall down a cliff towards the lake, resulting in a fatality.
Rescue services were immediately alerted by the victim’s brother, and an ambulance, alpine rescue team, 118 helicopter, and local law enforcement responded to the scene. The body recovery operation was complex and concluded around 1:30 p.m. The road was temporarily closed to facilitate the rescue efforts. This tragic event follows closely on the heels of another fatal accident that occurred on SP45 bis a few hours earlier.
